39 - UK diary - 30th of august-2nd of september

sunday, 30th of august 2015 – day 3 of leeds festival

i got migraine in the morning, yay. but it cleared up before i had to go to work at eight. the schedule for today:

·         12:00 – 12:30     BABYMETAL                Main Stage
·         15:20 – 15:50     As It Is                             Lock Up Stage
·         15:20 – 16:05     Pierce the Veil                 Main Stage
·         17:30 – 18:10     PVRIS                             Lock Up Stage
·         19:15 – 20:10     Bring Me the Horizon     Main Stage
·         21:00 – 23:00     Metallica                         Main Stage

work started at around nine-ish but this morning i was so tired that for the whole time until eleven thirty i picked up four bags full of cans only. i got permission to go see babymetal and we made it on time. babymetal were so great live, i loved their whole show so much.
after babymetal we got food and right after i went to see marmozets and i fell in love with this band. i hadn’t really listened much to their music but when i saw them, they were amazing. the band is an absolutely beautiful bunch of people.
right after i went to the lock up stage to wait for as it is. i was really really looking forward to seeing them, so of course i was on the front row. I went there two sets before, which means i also saw black peaks and no devotion. later on i learned that members of no devotion used to be in a band i listened to – lostprophets. no devotion’s song ’stay’ was so good live.

then it was time for as it is. this band was so so so incredible live. there was so much moving around, i adore patty walters in that way. patty jumped around the stage a lot and did his mic swings and just a bit right of me he went into the crowd but i was too far, so i didn’t get to touch him but that’s okay. but he did sing ’can’t save myself’ into my camera, so that’s half of the prize, really. patty did notice me a lot which is probably the best thing that happened at leeds festival, for me. i was the one person who was always jumping and singing along to every single song and i also made it into one of their videos on their facebook page.
after the as it is gig, i waited for people to leave from around me so i could move but i got one of the security guards’ attention and pointer to the stage and asked for the band set list. so, he grabbed it from the stage and when people noticed him with it, they waved their hands around me but he kindly handed it to me which was the best thing ever. i have an as it is set list! a few weeks later they auctioned basically the same set list on ebay to get money for the syrian refugees and the set list there was ripped but mine is in perfect condition, woo.
then i ran to see pierce the veil on the main stage and i saw a few of their last songs. their backdrop was absolutely beautiful and the band was so great live. i pushed my way to like thirty metes from the stage. after their set i went to the campsite and twenty before so me and janet went to see pvris and oh man, this band was so great live. lynn gunn’s voice is so perfect.
after the gig we ran back to the campsite to get dinner and then we quickly went to see bring me the horizon right after. we got quite close to the stage but i got kind of claustrophobic so i stayed back where it was less crowded. bring me the horizon were really really good live, i loved their set and i of course knew all the songs by heart, so i was proud.   there were like three or four mosh pits in the middle of the crowd because oli sykes demanded that so people did it.
after bmth we got back to the campsite and at nine thirty-ish we left to see metallica and the girls wanted to spend their last british money, so we went to see around and i got myself a new jacket for just £10 because the guy thought i looked pretty and the jacket was originally £25 and it’s my favourite thing ever. great deals, yay. then we moved along and i was out of money and everyone else was having a late night dinner but i refused when they offered me some, ’cause i’m me. then we went back to the  stage area and saw more of metallica and they were fantastic, one of my favorite childhood bands and they’ve greatly influenced my music taste. so good. my mum’s jealous. after the metallica gig we went back to the campsite and people drooled over my jacket, and i went to sleep twelve-ish while everyone else went to the last forest rave.

monday, 31st of august 2015 – leeds festival salvage day

              happy birthday maris!
we had a briefing at like ten or eleven but we couldn’t work until two because there were people still at the campsites or something like that. i don’t know. it was raining in the morning so we got our raincoats out and everything but when we got to the campsites, there was no rain. the funny thing was that we were brought to the campsites by a truck, in the back of a truck. me and alicija (poland) were making all sorts of jokes (e.g. ’we’re not donating tents, we’re donating organs today’) and laughing all the way there.
when we finally made it there, it looked as if a hurricane had gone over the campsites. so much trash and tents and equipment just laid on the ground. it looked absolutely mortifying. we were divided into groups and we searched for tents that were still good to use. later on we were given lists of things that certain charities wanted to get, so we completed our lists and collected all of the things in record time – four hours. bob told us that the usual time they’ve had the things gathered was eight hours so we really upped their game.
that was basically the day where if we found anything from the campsite, we were good to keep it (if it wasn’t anything illegal). i didn’t get anything ’cause i concentrated on salvaging charity things. but i did find bike lights so i gave them to bob and he was happy about them, ha. the most interesting thing i found but left behind was a packet of anti-diarrhoea tablets.
at six thirty-ish we got back to our campsite and we got our dinner then. we got hash browns and i was so psyched and i feel like i ate like half of the pan by myself. i love hash browns so much. we sat around and had a good laugh about the day’s activities and what people had found in and around the tents, and i went to bed at ten thirty. still an early bird.

tuesday, 1st of september 2015 – last day in the UK

at nine thirty we started loading things off of the truck so we could separate them between the charities. we had a lot of extra stuff collected so some of that went off to the charities as well.
we packed our stuff and then me and eleny were asked to see when the charity people were coming so they could find the right place. but eleny left almost immediately because she had another task and later i left as well and we were replaced kindly by liis and heidi ’cause i had to go help take our tent down. we took our stuff by the van and we took down the food tent. one-ish we got lunch and then we got some stuff to take away for dinner when we got back to manchester.
before leaving we had our last briefing and we gathered our thoughts about the whole event and said goodbye to everyone. it was so sad because we all were like a big family and we all had so much fun together and it was honestly one of the best experiences of my entire life.
at around two we took the bus to manchester.  when we got to the hotel, basically everyone immediately went for a hot shower, so i was no different. at six thirty-ish a group of estonians and germans [plus donny (sweden)] went to the manchester city centre. we did the last shopping and i looked around miss selfridge’s, a poundland where i got a lot of stuff, i went into the first starbucks in my life but didn’t get anything though, and we met up at about eight and got back to the hotel to get a good night sleep after sleeping in a tent for two weeks.

wednesday, 2nd of september – back to Tallinn

the next morning our taxi left at six thirty so everyone was up at six to get breakfast downstairs and the german group and donny were really nice and said goodbye to us. i think that out of all the countries’ people, my favourite ones have got to be the swedes and the germans ’cause they were the ones who interacted with everyone and we didn’t have much of a language barrier and everyone understood each other well. it was fantastic!
so at like seven we were in the manchester airport and i got held behind in the security because i had my jeans on that had a metal zipper so i ’beeped’ and so yeah, i g ottaken to the back room and the lady scanned me. it was absolutely terrifying. also my bag was searched throughout because i forgot to take my nose spray thing out. so yeah, then finally we went to the palce where our plane would take off but we had to wait for another half an hour because the plane wasn’t ready yet. on the plane i got a sandwich, yes. i was so hungry so i was so glad and the sandwiches on the lufthansa planes are to die for. and coffee!
later in frankfurt, things got hectic because our plane was leaving in half an hour after we’d gotten off the manchester one. so we basically ran to the next plane and we made it on time and everyone had a bit of wine to celebrate the last day but i didn’t ’cause i was sick, so i drank water. i also got another sandwich, yes.
at four twenty we were back in tallinn and we got our luggage quite quickly, comparing it to the manchester disaster. so that concluded our journey in england and we took our last group photos and hugged everyone, said goodbye and that was it. everyone went home or to school or wherever they had to go and i stayed in tallinn for the night. it was actually so nice to be back home but now i really miss the uk, i miss yorkshire a lot. it was so fun and i wouldn’t hesitate saying yes if i’d get asked to go again.

until next time!
