121 - a week in tallinn

this past week i've been in tallinn for the whole week (from sunday the 29th of may to monday, the 6th of june). it was a huge gig week for me, out of the eight days i was there i went to three gigs.

the first concert i went to was simple plan at club factory on monday, the 30th of may. and i tell you - it was one hell of a gig. it was honestly one of the best gigs i've been to because the band was so energetic and the crowd was absolutely buzzing. the supporting band, blind channel, were absolutely incredible as well.

here's some photos of the gig:

the next gig i went to was pretty much what i've been waiting for all year. it was time to see 5 seconds of summer and don broco. on the morning of 4th of june i went to the saku suurhall venue before 9am and there were already about thirty people there. majority of them were in the ages thirteen to sixteen which made me slightly uncomfortable because i felt old, lol. i settled into a group of estonian girls and we hung out until two of my friends came there and then we just waited for  solid six hours.

okay, not that long but at about 1pm we started lining up for the sound check. i was at a pretty good place, i was the twenty ninth person to be there in the morning since some girls were numbering everyone's hands to form a sound check line. and there were a couple of hundred people at sound check.

we were given our wristbands and laminates at about three pm and we were sent back out as soon as we got these two things (plus either a green or a yellow wristband, to see who goes to calum's side and who goes to michael's side. i was michael's side and had a green wristband). we were let in later than promised, at about four thirty-ish i want to say? and the sound check was really strict. i honestly thought that if i move one inch, i'm gonna be told off. it was a really intimate experience since there were no phones or cameras or anything allowed. i absolutely loved it because at gigs, i hate it when people have their phones out during the whole gig. i only take my phone out to take a couple of photos and that's it. i enjoy the gig full-on, always.

at the sound check, the first thing was that we were sent to sit down by the catwalk thing. i was on the second row, a bit left from the catwalk. then we got instructions and the introduction for the sound check experience and finally, 5 seconds of summer stepped on the stage. the first song we heard was 'long way home' which was super good, it's such a great song. then the boys came down to the catwalk and sat down at the edge. we had the chance to ask questions from the band and some of the questions were a bit stupid, in my opinion, since i had some good ones up my sleeve but i didn't get chosen to ask a question.

calum had just woken up from a nap, mikey had a blocked nose and luke and ashton were fine, or that's what it seemed like. i don't really know. hope mikey's feeling better now though! ashton was blabbering all the way through the q&a which i really loved because i could listen to him speak for hours, really. we got to know some cool things about their tour and music. they'd been to the queen show in helsinki the previous day and ash and mikey had a tiny argument about whether adam was part of queen now or not, which was pretty funny.

then we got to hear 'catch fire' which was so good because it's one of my favorite songs off 'sounds good feels good'. i was afraid i wouldn't get a chance to hear it at the gig because it hadn't been in the couple previous set lists. i love love love 'catch fire'.

and then we were sent out row by row again, and we were mixed up with the people with regular standing tickets. we got out so late that the waiting time was nothing now, only about twenty-ish minutes i want to say. some people were annoyingly loud and pushy, i fucking hate that.

i was fortunate enough to still get front row on mikey's side at the gig, just so i could clearly see the stage and the side stage thing was directly in front of me, so that was really really nice.

one thing i thought was super awesome was that the front row where i was, was almost fully estonians. it's usually that russians or finns are first to get front row at gigs but not this time. hells yea. i made friends and it was so great.

the gig itself was pretty phenomenal. i raved so hard at pretty much all of the songs that both bands did, especially at don broco's 'money power fame' because i just love this song so damn much.

i enjoyed looking at the bands play so much, they looked so energized and genuinely happy. it was so good to see. one of the factors was probably because brian may (founding guitarist of queen) was present at this gig. i'm so happy about that, so so so happy. partially of course because now 5sos won't forget ever coming to estonia. ;)

here's a batch of photos i took, the only ones but some of them are pretty good i think. new phone background, holla.

the photos of michael came out so nicely, i think!

and then was the last gig day on sunday - queen and adam lambert. it was so great. i had so much fun and the gig time went by so fast! even faster than the 5sos gig on saturday!

i love adam's vocals so much and roger and brian were absolutely incredible. it's so clear to see why they are legends in the rock genre. they are so good at what they do and i've loved queen for pretty much my whole life. it was the gig of a lifetime and i'm so grateful for it to have happened.

in the between days i met up with my best friend and we hung out and on monday i came back home! i'm so excited to be back home and surrounded by all of my books, haha.

a book-related post is coming up really soon!

until next time
