69 - anarchy + changing my reading habits

okay, so

i've been enlightened.
first off, it is like eleven, almost twelve at night currently and i feel really determined to do a massive book unhaul after watching a quite inspirational video. here's the video, first off:

now, after i finished watching this video i felt sort of this epiphany of how i should only read books that i really want to read and that in some way, 'call' to me. i want my shelves to reflect who i am as well, just as priscilla said.

the thing is, that i own so so many unread books that i know i will never get to them even if i really want to. that is also a reason why i will probably be changing up my reading goals for twenty sixteen.

as of maybe like november last year, i've decided not to buy books as often as i did when i was in high school. then it was easy because i went through town each time i went to school so i would almost always hop into the book store. bad habit.

i think that the thrill of buying books for me was that i wanted to have a ton of books and get to reading them but i'm not that quick of a reader, if i think of it now. it probably really depends on a book and its length as well.

(hi merilin i know you're gonna tell me 'i told you so' a million times after reading my ramble)
since november, or rather the beginning of december, i haven't bought a lot of books. maybe i've bought a total of ten books max. the thing i wanted to start to do this year was to only buy books in hardcover, meaning that i would already be buying less books than i have in the past few years. after that, i've only gotten two books so far in hardcover and i have four more coming and then i will only buy books that genuinely really interest me.

i've already stocked up on e-books as well, and that is first off to see if i like the book i've read digitally and then think over if i'm ever going to reread it. if i know i'm going to reread it, i will buy it and display it on my bookshelf. so i've stocked up real good on e-books.

the other thing is actually unhauling books. i own over four hundred books which is absolutely crazy since i've probably only ever read like a maximum of a hundred and fifty of them. i've considered doing unhauls before but then there's this feeling that gnaws at me that i've actually spend money on those books and it would be a pain to unhaul them because i haven't read them. even after reading them and finding out i didn't like the book feels kind of shit, hence why i've so far kept quite a few books i hadn't liked a whole bunch.

so, what i'm going to do probably tomorrow (because i don't want to make noise right now by moving books around the place) is go through my books and see what i would reread and what i wouldn't. and pick out all the ones i probably would and then unhaul the ones i didn't like and don't think ever will get to reading. i own some books that i know some of my family members probably like or would like and some i know my friends would like owning, so i'll do somewhat charity work.

i'll probably post a list of what i unhauled off my shelves once i'm done with it, and then i'll still psot occasional hauls but not as often as i used to. i really want to own more mangas though but at the same time i'm really getting into dystopia/fantasy right now.

i've probably now repeated the same thing over and over but if you would like to see what i've decided that i from now on really want to read, you can visit my goodreads page to see what i think i will be reading sooner rather than later. also, on my wattpad you can go through the shelf of books marked with a heart symbol to see what i really love reading on there as well, so you get the general idea.

in other news, i finished reading an ember in the ashes by sabaa tahir and this book will not be going anywhere from my shelf because i freakin' loved the crap out of it.

right now i'm reading anarchy on wattpad and it's another one that you will see on my heart shelf because it's so good and i love a good dystopian post-apocalyptic story and that is exactly it. and a cheeky little update told me that this book will be in physical form as well, in development as of now, so it will definitely be on my shelf when it really does get to publishing time.

another thing is that i've decided not to dwell on books that i dislike from the start or like a quarter way through and i'm just gonna drop reading them right away not after reading the whole thing and not feeling satisfied at all. yep.

thanks to that i've also decided to lower my goodreads goal of twenty sixteen to sixty books because i want to thoroughly enjoy what i read.

thanks for your attention and i'll see you in my next post

until then
