83 - the book thief

i usually update like twice a week - didn't last week, oops.

last week i started with the book thief by markus zusak and i finished it on saturday. this book was wonderful and i am not usually a big reader of historical fiction but i'm starting to re-evaluate my reading habits, really. this book is narrated by death and it follows a girl named liesel and it is set in world war ii in munich, germany. and this was beautiful. i have now read two markus zusak's books and loved them both and i feel like he's probably now one of my favourite authors because his writing is simple, understandable for anyone and at the same time it's incredibly beautiful and mesmerizing. i gave the first book i read by him, i am the messenger a five stars, and 'the book thief' is no different. one of my favorites i've read this year.

the second book i read was the great gatsby by f. scott fitzgerald and i loved this as well, and again i'm not huge on reading classics either. but this was more modern and it was short and quite understandable, so i loved it. four out of five stars.

then, i started reading red queen by victoria aveyard on sunday and the first chapter was confusing, the second one is a bit more understandable but i'm not getting into it just yet.

and then alongside with that i picked up dark and dangerous love again and i'm really enjoying it so far! i'm only in the beginning part where the 'real' events haven't started happening yet but it's really intriguing. it's about vampires ruling the world in the future and a girl who basically despises them but she can't say anything about it because, well, they rule the world. so, she goes to a vampire party and when she goes out to the balcony to get a bit of fresh air, a vampire joins her who doesn't reveal who he is. days later the king's guards show up at her house and inform her about the king's invite to tend to his needs, really - and yes, i mean in that way. so, she's wondering why it is that she is invited - because the king never invites anyone really to his castle - but it turns out the vampire she encountered on the balcony was the king. she has to prepare herself since the king's not taking her in before she's eighteen and lots of things happen before that. so, i'm quite intrigued by it right now because i haven't read a vampire book in absolute ages and it's interesting so far.

so these are the books that i will be reading for a couple of days probably and i'll see when i can get to my march tbr further on.

today's song choice is sia's 'unstoppable'.

until next time
