91 - my life next door
hiiiiiii
i've read a few things since i last updated! success.
i finished reading obsidian by jennifer l. armentrout and it was freakin' fantastic. i flew through the second half of it so quickly i didn't even notice. but now i don't want to pick up 'onyx' because i don't have the rest of the series yet and i don't want it to end on a cliffhanger lol. five out of five stars from me. who would've thought i'd like alien stories?
so, 'obsidian' is about katy who moves from florida to a little town far away (can't remember where lol) and has to go to a new school, and readjust to living in a new town. her father has died and katy's mum decided that they needed to get away from florida in order to move on. she has moved next door to a set of twins who are flawless, they look pretty much perfect. within weeks, katy and dee - one of the twins - become best friends and they get along very well. that can't be said about daemon who is sarcastic, (sort of) mean, egocentric. katy doesn't like him and she's only attracted to him by his appearance. however, the whole town despises the twins because they seem peculiar to everyone. on a night when katy goes to the library, she gets attacked and daemon comes to her rescue. she doesn't make anything out of what he had done to her attacker, but as time moves on, more secrets are revealed that pretty much nobody knows about, and they start to affect katy's life. a lot.
then i started reading my life next door by huntley fitzpatrick which i originally planned to read during tbr takedown 3.5. i got about halfway through it and then my eye started to fuck up, as in it was dry and i didn't have the eyedrops and i couldn't read nor write or anything. it was sad. it's okay now though. and i finished reading it late last night and i freakin' loved this story again. five out of five stars, naturally.
'my life next door' follows our main character samantha who is the daughter of a senator. they're the model family to the town, with samantha and tracy as the golden children. next door to them live the garrett family - a messy family; the couple with seven children. samantha's mother thinks they're dirty and states that she despises them, as samantha has been secretly looking at the neighbors for years from her roof. on a day when she is on her roof, and has learned about her mother getting a new man in her life she doesn't like, she meets jase - one of the garretts. they hit it off and find themselves falling in love with each other, as secrets and problems pile up in both of their lives. samantha is determined to solve them but she's not sure how to do it without breaking the hearts of whom she loves.
i started reading again by robyn christina but haven't gotten further than the prologue as of now, i'm just saving it for a better reading day.
at the same time, pretty much, i started reading bridesmaid and in this calum hood story, our main character's best friend is getting married to her long-time boyfriend and alli is asked to be the maid of honor. at the same note, calum is asked to be mercedes' fianceƩ luke's best man. and surprise surprise - alli has been crushing on calum since they went to high school together, but she now has to face the consequences of them meeting again after three years, plus them being together as the maid of honor and the best man. but the thing is - mercedes' parents didn't give the engaged couple their blessings but they're determined to have their wedding anyway - far away, in bali, in just a few months' time.
i'm really liking it so far and i can't wait to see where the story goes!
today i started reading confess by colleen hoover and i'm pretty positive i'll be finishing it late tonight. this is my second pick for genrethon as i now decided i failed tbr takedown 3.5, i thought i'd also move 'my life next door' to this read-a-thon.
'confess' follows our main character auburn who, as a fifteen-year old has lost her boyfriend to cancer. five years later, she is struggling to get her life together in dallas, texas with all the bills of her shared apartment and everyday necessities; and she picks up a job at an 'art gallery' called "confess", after seeing an available spot being advertised on the gallery's window. 'confess' is owned by owen, an artist who only makes living out of his paintings. he paints people's confessions into what he thinks they mean - confessions that random people have left to his 'confession box'. owen and auburn find each other attracted to each other but as owen is making up more and more lies for auburn, and as to why he hadn't shown up to their meet-up, they end up hurting each other. and that isn't the only confession both of them would rather keep to themselves.
i love this book solely because of it has paintings and the fact that owen is an artist, i kind of already fell in love with the character right away, even though i (so far) don't know if i should've. but i really like the storyline so far and colleen hoover is still one of my all-time favorite authors, she's so great with her words.
so. genrethon,
my life next door counts as young adult contemporary
confess counts as new adult contemporary
and i have a couple of more books for the read-a-thon, so stay tuned.
today's song choice is selena gomez' 'hands to myself' cuz i can't get it out of my head.
until next time
